Darkness Wells Up
Darkness wells up deep inside
Tears, the agony, I just can’t hide
Sadness, the tides of painful sorrow
No one is ever promised tomorrow
This I know, I’ve lived it well
Powerful events that cast their spell
Each a lesson that had its place
Hard realities I’ve had to face
Death and loss, those bitter foes
The memories that haunt, no one knows
Most will never have a clue
The burdens one carries, for they must push through
Never a soul to be daunted
I’d flirt with death, I’d drop the gauntlet
But time again, it hunts me down
Drags me bitterly to the ground
And even when I say enough
Sorrow unsatisfied, dines on lust
Barely recognizable, I am still me
Where is the angel who’ll set me free?
Until then the blackness rages
Death and sorrow rattle their cages
I fight the battle barely breathing
Daylight please, the pain revealing
